Tala Centers For Bright Stars

Introduction: Tala is the mythological goddess of morning and evening stars for the Tagalog people of the Philippines. For the Kapampangan people she was both a goddess of bright stars and agriculture. In our program of earth farms and space science she is symbolic of STEAM education for young women in the Philippines. Across the developing world, education within these demographics efficiently and effectively supports new innovators.

Building Tala center expansions for our core campus structures increases our student capacity by approximately 50%. That extra capacity is dedicated to agronomy, data-science, Foodplus, mathematics, marketing, media production and space science focused program spots. An equal number of universal program spots are then open for young women in need. Tala center additions also provide space for daytime child care, visiting scholars and hosted medical clinics. Where the SRB development stage is our earliest functional campus configuration Tala centers are the most advanced structures we will build at basecamp.

General Core Structure: Each campus core structure is usually a café sari sari core or a residence core. In any configuration the second story Tala centers are always high suites to increase residence capacity.

Tala Center Additions: At the ground level the Tala center addition provides an extra workstation (workshop, wash, prep kitchen, LPG kitchen), office space and a studio / quarters. The layout also provides extra access control and security systems for the core structure.

Second Story High Suites: The second story Tala center consists of a covered exterior deck with insect screens, two suites with offices, a dormitory (bed-space) and a housekeeping suite.

Café Sari Sari Core: The first core structure constructed supports a full café-bistro and expanded convenience store on campus. The teamspace is a multirole study / maker / lab space.

Residence Cores: Additional core structures are likely to follow the residence layout, hosting more international students on campus. The teamspace is a multirole study / maker / lab space.

Modular Additions: Our prototype campus design is an adaptive system. Each core structure is potentially surrounded by modular additions appropriate for function and location. Plans will be flexible enough that builders can pick and choose – combining our modules as they require. Upper year students may even design and build new modules. Two modules we are building on basecamp are the café east and the north kitchen expansions for the café core. Cafe east is depicted at a convenient size for a sample plan and is easily expandable.
